Tool: Salival [2000 – BoxSet]

To box set Salival κυκλοφόρησε το 2000 σε δύο μορφές: CD και VHS κασέτα και CD και DVD. Συνοδεύεται από 56σέλιδο βιβλιαράκι με φωτογραφίες των Tool και σκηνές από τα video clips. Το χειρότερο σημείο όλων, είναι ότι δεν το έχω και το θέλω! Παρακαλώ όποιον τυχαίνει να έχει ή να ξέρει κάποιον που έχει ένα αντίτυπο, να με ενημερώσει πάραυτα! Και τώρα στο ζουμί.

Το CD περιέχει 9 τραγούδια. Τα 5 είναι από ζωντανές ηχογραφήσεις, ενώ τα 4 είναι κομμάτια που ηχογράφησαν, αλλά δεν κυκλοφόρησαν μέχρι τότε. Όλα τα κομμάτια δίνουν την αίσθηση μιας επικότητας, ιδιαίτερα τα live. Με αλλαγμένους στίχους και ‘πειραματική’ διάθεση, σα να ήθελαν οι Tool να εμπεδοθεί στο μυαλό του κοινού ότι ήταν (και είναι) η κορυφαία μπάντα στον κόσμο, ότι θα έπρεπε ο καθένας να τους πάρει στα σοβαρά και ότι στις ζωντανές τους εμφανίσεις, ο κάθε παρευρισκόμενος ζει σε έναν εντελώς Toolικό κόσμο, από τον οποίο ούτε θέλει, αλλά ούτε και μπορεί να το σκάσει.

Τα τραγούδια με τη σειρά εμφάνισης τους στο CD:

Third Eye (Live): Χωρίς το απόσπασμα του Hicks, αλλά με εισαγωγή από Timothy Leary, την οποία μπορείτε να διαβάσετε παρακάτω στους στίχους. Εξωπραγματική μουσική, μοναδική ερμηνεία από το Maynard. Τι άλλο να πει κανείς;

Part Of Me (Live): Ακόμα πιο θυμωμένο, και πιο γρήγορο. O Maynard φτύνει τις λέξεις με νόημα, κι όποιος το πιάσει..

Pushit (Live): Με διάρκεια 1,5 φορές μεγαλύτερη από την έκδοση του Ænima. Η εισαγωγή του Maynard τα λέει όλα. “Βλέπουμε ένα τραγούδι μας, από διαφορετική γωνία”. Κι έτσι, το πιο εσωστρεφές τραγούδι των Tool, γίνεται ακόμα πιο συναισθηματικό και δυσνόητο. Γλυκό και πονεμένο. Αινιγματικό και λυτρωτικό. Απόλαυση.

Message To Harry Manback II: Σε περίπτωση που δεν τον ικανοποίησαν οι βρισιές και οι απειλές του πρώτου, έχουμε κι ένα δεύτερο μήνυμα για τον κύριο με μερικές βρισιές ακόμα.

Merkaba (Live): Το instrumental αυτό, ήταν η εισαγωγή για το Sober, στις ζωντανές εκτελέσεις του. Ο τίτλος είναι αναφορά σε μια new-age πρακτική διαλογισμού.

You Lied (Live): Τραγούδι των Peach, της μπάντας στην οποία έπαιζε ο Justin πριν έρθει στους Tool. Εντελώς Toolοποιημένο και παρατεταμένο. Βαρύ και στοιχειωμένο, χάρη στα φωνητικά του Maynard.

No Quarter (Live): Το 7λεπτο τραγούδι των Led Zeppelin παίρνει εδώ επικές διαστάσεις με διάρκεια 11+ λεπτών. Ξεκάθαρα βαρύτερο από την αρχική του εκτέλεση και με στίχους διαφοροποιημένους, παίρνει κι αυτό μια Tool αισθητική. Αρχικά προοριζόταν για το soundtrack του Private Parts, μιας αυτοβιογραφικής ταινίας για το διάσημο ραδιοφωνικό παραγωγό Howard Stern, αλλά οι Tool μετάνιωσαν και δεν το πρόσφεραν για τη συγκεκριμένη χρήση.

L.A.M.C.: Σημαίνει Los Angeles Municipal Court. Είναι ένα ηχογραφημένο μήνυμα που ακούει κανείς τηλεφωνώντας στο συγκεκριμένο δικαστήριο, συνοδευόμενο από διάφορους ‘ήχους’. Ο Maynard λέει πως είναι αφιερωμένο γενικά στη ζωή στο Los Angeles και παρουσιάζει τη γραφειοκρατία και τις δυσκολίες που αντιμετωπίζει κάποιος που θα χρειαστεί πληροφορίες από το δικαστήριο, έστω και για κάτι τόσο ηλίθιο όσο μια κλήση για παράνομο παρκάρισμα. Προφανώς κάπως έτσι έμπλεξε ο Danny, δεν πλήρωσε μια κλήση λόγω αυτών των βλακειών και κατέληξε για λίγο στη φυλακή.

Maynard’s Dick: Hidden Track με, προφανώς, απλούς στίχους και νόημα. Χρονολογημένο από την εποχή του Opiate, είναι θυμωμένο, φωνακλάδικο και περιέχει βρισιές. Μερικοί βλέπουν και σ’αυτό στοιχεία της κακοποίησης του Maynard ως παιδί από τον πατέρα του, όπως αναφέρεται, πιο φανερά, στο Prison Sex.

Τα πρώτα αντίτυπα του Salival με το DVD, καθώς και η έκδοση με την κασέτα που είχε κόκκινη ταινία, είχαν μερικά τυπογραφικά λάθη, πιθανότατα ηθελημένα. Οι μεταγενέστερες εκδόσεις δεν παρουσιάζουν αυτά τα λάθη, τα οποία είναι:

-Stinkfist ως Stink Fist

-Η λίστα των videos στην κασέτα έχει ανάστροφη χρονολογική σειρά.

-Η ταξινόμηση των Merkaba και You Lied είναι λανθασμένη.

Η κασέτα περιείχε τα videos των: Ænema, Stinkfist, Prison Sex και Sober, ενώ το DVD είχε τα ίδια, συμπεριλαμβανομένου και του Hush.
