Bayern München 1 – 0 Hamburger

Report από bundesliga.de:

FC Bayern München returned to the top of the Bundesliga table for the first time in almost two years thanks to a 1-0 home victory over Hamburger SV at the Allianz Arena.

A hammer strike from Franck Ribery was enough for the Bavarian giants to take all three points in a close-fought game, the home side just about deserving of victory based on their attacking possession throughout the match.

Dominant in possession

Bayern enjoyed the lions’ share of the possession in the opening period and created arguably the best opportunity of the half on 13 minutes when Bastian Schweinsteiger picked out Thomas Müller in the box with a delightful through ball, only for the German youngster’s cheeky clipped finish to end up on the roof of the net.

Hamburg first threatened when Piotr Trochowski dug out an excellent strike from distance, but Hans-Jörg Butt was equal to it and Bayern continued to dictate the tempo with Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery interchanging on the flanks with enviable ease. Still, the Bavarians lacked precision with their final ball and continued to concede chances. Trochowski was presented with another good opportunity from the edge of the box on 22 minutes but was unable to keep his shot down after being teed up by Eljero Elia’s pass, while Mladen Petric should also have done better, blazing over after being put through just before the interval.

Ribery comes up trumps

With Frank Rost clearly struggling with a hip injury, Wolfsgang Hesl took over between the sticks for HSV in the second half as Bayern continued to exert pressure without managing to penetrate the visitors’ back line. It took until the 65th minute before the hosts finally worked an opening, Ribery poking comfortably wide after Bayern had forced their way into the box with a clever passing move.

Louis van Gaal’s charges huffed and puffed, and just as it began to look as though there would be no reward for their attacking superiority, up stepped star man Ribery with a thumping right-foot strike which flew into the back of the net to the delight of the Allianz Arena faithful. Hesl managed to get a touch, but the sheer power behind the shot was simply too much for the young goalkeeper to handle.

For their part, Hamburg almost grabbed an equaliser with seven minutes remaining when substitute Tunay Torun sent a looping header over Butt, only to see the ball bounce off the bar and back into the danger area. In truth, however, the hosts were able to bring the three points over the line with relative ease and there were smiles all round as Germany’s most successful club returned to the top of the Bundesliga table for the first time since summer 2008. Hamburg remain in fourth, just two points separating them from a non-European qualification place.
